And your hero for the new Mortal Kombat movie is…

Okay, I lied.  A little bit anyway.

The lead karacter in the next MORTAL KOMBAT movie is yet unnamed at this time.  But what has been revealed is that the reboot “will follow a lowly unlucky supermarket employee who discovers that he has out of this world powers and must decide between good and evil, even though the evil side has helped him discover his true potential and who he really is.”

That’s at once so vague and yet so specific I’m honestly not sure what sort of komment to make, so I think I kan just leave it be for now.  Though no start date has yet been set, the movie is still scheduled to be directed by Kevin Tancharoen (the short movie MORTAL KOMBAT: REBIRTH) from a script by Oren Uziel (also MORTAL KOMBAT: REBIRTH).

For those who are unfamiliar, the MORTAL KOMBAT video game franchise tells the story of a fighting tournament filled with the best fighters from several different realms, the outcome of which then decides the fate of those realms.

Here are some pictures from MORTAL KOMBAT: REBIRTH featuring Jax, Reptile, and Baraka:
