A few weeks ago we let you know Universal was looking at Angelina Jolie to star in their BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN remake, which will be part of their impending Classic Monsters cinematic universe. Now, courtesy of Variety, it has come to light the studio is also hoping she’ll direct the film.

Universal “wants to offer Angelina Jolie Pitt directing and starring gigs” in BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN says Variety, although she’s waiting to see a finished script before she agrees to those terms. Said script will be written by David Koepp, one of Hollywood’s most reliable scribes who has titles like SPIDER-MAN, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, THE LOST WORLD and INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL among his many credits. (And let’s not forget he directed STIR OF ECHOES and SECRET WINDOW.) Koepp has just been hired to bring fresh life to the classic tale of a monster, his maker and their aborted bride-to-be.

Jolie has three narrative features under her belt as a director: IN THE LAND OF BLOOD AND HONEY, UNBROKEN and this fall’s bomb BY THE SEA.

Universal is moving forward on several properties of this mold; their main priority at the moment is rebooting THE MUMMY, which is rumored to star Sofia Boutella and will be helmed by Alex Kurtzman.
