Angelina Jolie plans to give up acting permanently and focus on directing

Angelina Jolie is an award-winning actress known around the world for her humanitarian work as well as being one of the sexiest women in Hollywood. She has appeared in everything from action franchises to critically-acclaimed dramas. Looking at her, you would never in a million years expect her to be anywhere but magazine covers and movie posters but that is not where she feels most comfortable. In fact, we may be seeing less and less of her on the silver screen.

In a new interview with Du Jour Magazine, Jolie discussed her upcoming films UNBROKEN and BY THE SEA and where she plans to go next in her career.

“I’ve never been comfortable as an actor; I’ve never loved being in front of the camera,” said Jolie. “I didn’t ever think I could direct, but I hope I’m able to have a career at it because I’m much happier.” The magazine reports that when asked if she plans to give up acting entirely, Jolie smiled and said, “Absolutely.”

Many actors have made the change from performer to director like George Clooney, Ben Affleck, Mel Gibson, and Jodie Foster, but all have managed to stay on screen as well. Jolie sounds like she may appear in her own films going forward, but we likely can count out any more movies like SALT or WANTED on her resume. Her previous effort as director, IN THE LAND OF BLOOD AND HONEY, was nowhere near a masterpiece but did show that Jolie has an eye for filmmaking. Here’s hoping UNBROKEN lives up to the excellent trailers we have seen so far.

UNBROKEN hits theaters on December 25th.
