Animated movie about Animal Crackers with all-star cast on the way

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Move over EMOJI MOVIE, I think we've found a contender for worst idea for an animated movie: ANIMAL CRACKERS. Yes, ANIMAL CRACKERS. But, hell, maybe they found an interesting hook, or some untapped story idea that elevates its origins (like LEGO MOVIE did). Here's the plot synopsis:

ANIMAL CRACKERS is about a family who must use a magical box of Animal Crackers to save a run-down circus from being taken over by their evil uncle, Horatio P. Huntington. The catch is, once anyone eats an animal cracker, they turn into that animal. Therefore, when it comes to ANIMAL CRACKERS, you are what you eat.

Um, what? At least it's interesting. Not necessarily good, but interesting.

However, what's even more interesting than that is the impressive voice cast! It includes Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Danny DeVito, Ian McKellen, Sylvester Stallone, Raven-Symoné, Patrick Warburton, Wallace Shawn, Gilbert Gottfried, and Harvey Fierstein! So maybe there's more to this than meets the eye if the film was able to gather this cast. Or the paychecks were huuuge.

Anyway here's what Scott Christian Sava – creator, writer, director, and producer of the film – had to say:

This film has been a labor of love…We have put together this amazing story and we are so excited that Arclight Films is going to help us share it with the world.

Labor of love? While Sava might be telling the truth, this sounds – as an outsider – like the most cynical cash grab ever. But I've been wrong about this sort of thing before (like THE LEGO MOVIE). So I'm willing to give it a chance, until we at least see a trailer. But I'm not getting my hopes up too high. I mean, Animal Crackers are barely good snacks to begin with.

But what about you Schmoes? Sound off below!

No release date as of yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
