We’ve seen the story of Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII play out many times on screen and the latest version of the tale has nearly arrived. AMC has released a new trailer for Anne Boleyn, a three-episode miniseries that stars Jodie Turner-Smith as the iconic Queen.

Anne Boleyn debuted overseas earlier this summer, but it’s set to premiere on AMC+ in the U.S. this winter. The series explores life from “the eponymous Queen’s perspective, as she struggles to secure a future for her daughter and to challenge the powerful patriarchy closing in around her.” In addition to Jodie Turner-Smith, Anne Boleyn also stars Mark Stanley (Game of Thrones) as Henry VIII, Paapa Essiedu (Gangs of London) as George Boleyn, Anne’s brother, and Lola Petticrew (Bloodlands) as Jane Seymour, Anne’s rival for Henry’s affections. I’m a bit of a sucker for these Tudor stories, no matter how many times I’ve seen them, so I’ll definitely be adding this one to my queue. What are your thoughts on the Anne Boleyn trailer?

Jodie Turner-Smith was once attached to star in The Witcher: Blood Origin for Netflix as Éile, “an elite warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess.” Scheduling issues forced her to drop out of the prequel series and she was replaced by Sophia Brown. Following Anne Boleyn, Jodie Turner-Smith will next be seen starring alongside Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig in Noah Baumbach’s White Noise, a drama that will debut on Netflix next year.

Anne Boleyn will premiere on December 9, 2021 exclusively on AMC+.
