The DC Universe is in an awkward spot right now. Although James Gunn and Peter Safran are mapping out a new multi-year plan for the franchise, there are still several movies developed under the old regime yet to be released, including Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The upcoming Aquaman sequel is said to feature Ben Affleck reprising his role as Batman, but it rumoured that Michael Keaton had also shot scenes as Batman for the movie.

While speaking with The Wrap, Jason Momoa confirmed that he had shot scenes with “a couple different Batmans,” but added that “you just don’t know what’s going on and we’ll see what the end product is.” This could mean that we could see Ben Affleck’s Batman, Michael Keaton’s Batman, both, or neither; such is the state of the DC Universe at present. We’ll see both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton reprise their Batman roles in The Flash, but depending on what happens with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, that may be the last we see of them.

As for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Jason Momoa teased that the movie is “really a journey with the brothers. Patrick Wilson is phenomenal and there’s just a lot of themes that are going on in it. What I wanted to do was not have some alien force that’s trying to attack us. It’s not gonna be something that’s from an outer world. It’s all about what we’re doing to our planet, and we’re expediting what’s gonna happen when you melt the caps. It’s our future. You’re seeing it happen right now.

We should be hearing more of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s plans for the new DC Universe in the near future, but Jason Momoa has teased that he will be sticking with the franchise. “It was very very wonderful,” Momoa said last week in regards to his recent meeting with Warner Bros. “I’m in the house of Warner Bros., and they’re liking a lot of stuff I’m doing. We’ve got a lot of good things coming.” Momoa also commented on rumours that he will be recast as Aquaman following the release of the sequel. “I’ll always be Aquaman,” Momoa added. “The rumors are… I’ll always be Aquaman. Ain’t anyone coming in there and taking sh-t. And then, there might be some other characters too. I can play other things too. I can be funny and savage and charming, once in a while.

In addition to Jason Momoa as Aquaman, the upcoming Aquaman sequel also stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Patrick Wilson as Orm, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, and Amber Heard as Mera. We don’t know too much about the film, only that it will find Aquaman forging an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally in a bid to save Atlantis and the rest of the planet. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will hit theaters on December 25th.
