Aquaman won’t use the same trick for underwater dialogue as Justice League

Be mindful of MINOR SPOILERS for JUSTICE LEAGUE below. Although the main three heroes, Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), had already received their proper introductions in prior films, the recently released JUSTICE LEAGUE served as our first opportunity to spend any quality time with Flash (Ezra Miller), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and Aquaman (Jason Momoa), but in regards to the latter, we'll have to wait until James Wan's AQUAMAN in 2018 before we can really explore Aquaman's world.

It seems that the Zack Snyder film left several Aquaman-centric sequences on the cutting room floor (which unfortunately included Willem Dafoe's Nuidis Vulko) and we didn't get to spend all that much time in Atlantis. During the short sequence we did get, Mera (Amber Heard) spoke with Aquaman underwater by creating an air bubble around them, leading fans to feel cheated out of actual underwater dialogue. James Wan took to Twitter to respond, saying that his film will NOT be using the same trick.

Jason Momoa recently responded to the negative reaction which JUSTICE LEAGUE has received so far (it bummed him out), but also chimed in on why Aquaman-centric scenes wound up on the cutting room floor. "The challenging part is [the Justice League story] is only about a weekend in Author Curry’s life," he says. "[Fans] might be like, ‘Why is he that grumpy? Why’s he hiding up there?’ We had it all planned out. A lot of things got cut. But it’s not my movie. It’s a huge movie introducing three new characters, and for myself and The Flash and Cyborg, there was a lot that was there we just couldn’t get in. It could have been two movies. We had some stuff with William Dafoe. The whole Atlantean part, about me being this reluctant king. There was no need for it because you’re going to see it in Aquaman. It’s not an Aquaman movie, it’s a Justice League movie."

JUSTICE LEAGUE is now playing in theaters, and AQUAMAN is set for a December 21, 2018 release.
