In an interview with IGN, Dario Argento revealed that there are currently plans to remake his giallo classic THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE – and he’s alright with that.
The Italian suspense master said (after commenting on the remake of his best-known film, SUSPIRIA): I think somebody also wants to remake Bird With the Crystal Plumage (laughs). I hear that somebody wants to do that, but this is much more difficult to remake because there’s a link to Italy in the 1970s, which is a little bit difficult to do. But if somebody wants to do that, okay (laughs).
While I have no great love for BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE, I still roll my eyes at the news of yet another remake… But I’ve done so much eye-rolling these past few years, they’re about to come a’tumbling out of their damn sockets.
Argento is currently at work on GIALLO – which he says, surprisingly, is due for a title change soon. I don’t know how it could possibly be improved upon, considering how apropos it is. I guess if they make it more generic, it will have greater appeal in the States… Such is life.
