Armie Hammer is ready for a second chance but acknowledges he “made these problems for myself”

Armie Hammer was one of Hollywood’s biggest upcoming actors, but when several women came forward with sexual assault allegations against him in 2021 (not to mention those bizarre cannibalism claims), his career was over. After several years under the radar, Hammer has been slowly making his way back to the world of acting and is ready for a second chance.

Armie Hammer Returns

When Hammer returned to Los Angeles, one of the first job offers he received was from none other than Uwe Boll, the controversial German filmmaker behind some of the worst movies of all time. But for Hammer, it was just thrilling to get an offer to star in a movie again.

I’m pretty sure I cried,” Hammer told THR in a feature that’s very well worth the read. “It was just this moment where I was like: I’m going to get to do the thing that I love more than anything — other than my children. I would have done a f***ing cat food commercial. I just wanted to work again.

When he arrived on set for Citizen Vigilante, it had been so long that he wasn’t sure he could remember how to act. “I was scared shitless until the moment Uwe said action for the first time,” he said. “And then I was like — ‘Wait. I do know how to do this.’ There’s a reason I had the success I had.

In addition to Citizen Vigilante, Hammer also shot three other low-budget movies: Frontier Crucible, a Western released last year; Night Driver, an upcoming thriller about a Mafia errand boy whose night goes sideways; and a third project that hasn’t yet been announced.

It remains to be seen if Hammer will ever return to the Hollywood mainstream, but he’s ready if that day comes. That said, he acknowledges some responsibility for the events that cast him out in the first place. “I made these problems for myself,” he said. “This didn’t happen to me by a fluke accident. I didn’t do what people are saying I did. But I brought very dangerous and unsafe people into my life, and I pissed off people in my life — and here we are.

Citizen Vigilante

Citizen Vigilante centers on a wealthy American businessman living in Europe who transforms into a notorious vigilante targeting violent criminals and corrupt officials, ultimately becoming both a hunted fugitive and an unlikely media phenomenon. Boll has said that the film is a “very dark and violent movie” which features “rapes and knife attacks” as it examines the “landscape in Europe.

The film is scheduled to be released in select theaters and on digital on June 19.
