Arnold Schwarzenegger is Guardian in this new Terminator: Genisys featurette

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

From everything we have seen and learned about TERMINATOR: GENISYS to date, we know that Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s character serves as a parental figure for Sarah Connor in this alternate timeline. Thanks to this new featurette, we know that he is, in fact, both her guardian in role and in name.

A Terminator taking on a protector role is not new and is what made the relationship between John Connor and the T-800 so impactful and drove the emotional impact of that film’s conclusion home. But, revising history and making the T-800 Sarah’s father figure for years is an interesting plot twist. In these new scenes, we see Guardian tell Sarah Connor to buckle her seatbelt and other fatherly things. I could not help but cringe at the cheesiness of these lines and hope they work better in the film rather than in these quick clips.

TERMINATOR: GENISYS is aimed to be the first in a new trilogy but that all hinges on how the public receives it when it premieres in a few weeks. James Cameron claims fans are going to love the movie, but I think most people are still feeling very cautious.

TERMINATOR: GENISYS hits theaters on July 1st.
