Maybe we were all in awe of the news that Arnold Schwarzenegger would be returning for resequelboot TERMINATOR: GENESIS alongside new stars Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney and Jason Clarke to question how the actor would be playing the same character but with 30 years of time in between films. Now, thanks to Arnold himself, we have an answer.
Speaking with MTV, Schwarzenegger revealed some plot details about the fifth TERMINATOR movie and just how it is possible for him to be playing the same robot he did back in 1984.
“The way that the character is written, it’s a machine underneath,” Schwarzenegger continued. “It’s this metal skeleton. But above that is human flesh. And the Terminator’s flesh ages, just like any other human being’s flesh. Maybe not as fast. But it definitely ages.”
So, now we know that Terminators get old, just like the rest of us, only with a laser focus killing edge. Schwarzenegger also shed some light on just how he gets brought back into the machinations that set TERMINATOR: GENESIS in motion.
“Terminator deals a lot with time travel, so there will be a younger T-800,” Schwarzenegger added, blowing our minds, “and then what that model does later on when it gets reprogrammed, and who gets ahold of him. So it will be all kinds of interesting twists in the movie, but I feel so good.”
While I liked RISE OF THE MACHINES and SALVATION, they paled in comparison to the James Cameron-directed entries in the franchise. Something was just lost in those movies, but it sounds like there is a hell of a lot of potential in TERMINATOR: GENESIS to right those wrongs. It will take more than some brief snippets and hints from Arnold to put me at ease, but we are on the right track.
TERMINATOR: GENESIS is slated to hit theaters on July 1, 2015.
