Three Oscar nominees and a comedy

Deadline is reporting that 3-time Academy Award-nominee Ralph Fiennes will be starring in the comedy, titled Art, along with Academy Award-nominee Colin Farrell and Academy Award-nominee Wagner Moura. Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles, known for City Of God and The Two Popes, will be helming the film from a screenplay by Oscar winner Christopher Hampton (The Father). The script is adapted from the hit play of the same name from French playwright Yasmina Rez. This adaptation will be done in English.

Art is art

Per Deadline, the plot involves navigating “art and friendship. It follows three long-time friends, Serge, Marc, and Yvan. Serge, indulging his penchant for modern art, buys a large, expensive, completely white painting, with some slightly-less white lines. Marc is horrified that Serge would waste such money on this, and their relationship suffers considerable strain as a result of their differing opinions about what constitutes ‘art’. Their troubled friend, Yvan, finds himself caught in the middle of the conflict. He attempts to please and mollify both of them, but this only serves to make things worse.”

Charles Finch (Priscilla) and Tracy Seaward (PhilomenaThe Queen) are on board as producers on the project. The launching sale on the Cannes market will be handled by Patrick Wachsberger’s company, 193.

The popular play opened in its native France in 1994. Then, it went on to perform on London’s West End, in Sydney, Australia and on Broadway. The recent Broadway production would star comedy stylings from Bobby Cannavale, James Corden and Neil Patrick Harris.

Ralph Fiennes and Voldemort

Meanwhile, Fiennes had been inquired about a possibility for returning as Voldemort for the new HBO Harry Potter series. “I remember being asked the question once we’d shot the total film series, would I reprise the part, and this was some years ago. I said, ‘Yes, I’d love to,’” Fiennes revealed. “But then nothing’s happened and I think that ship has sailed.” While fans want to see Fiennes play the iconic character again, he thinks the opportunity has passed, but he does have an idea of who could fill his robes. “But I’ll tell you, Tilda Swinton was mentioned somewhere as being a contender, and I think she would be amazing.”
