Aselton, Elwes, and more join the Raimi-produced Shrine

Just three months ago, it was announced that Jordana Brewster would be joining Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the cast of writer/director Evan Spiliotopoulos's James Herbert adaptation SHRINE. That was a bit of casting that I was happy about, as it was cool to see Brewster returning to the horror genre, where she had previously appeared in THE FACULTY and THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING. But the scheduling didn't work out and Brewster has had to leave the project. 

Replacing Brewster as the film's female lead is Katie Aselton, who has some genre experience of her own. She was in BLACK ROCK, Joel Edgerton's THE GIFT, and DEEP MURDER.

Also joining the cast of SHRINE are Cary Elwes, William Sadler, Diogo Morgado, Cricket Brown, Marina Mazepa, Christine Adams, and Bates Wilde.

Herbert's novel (which you can purchase HERE) tells the story of 

a disgraced journalist who discovers a series of seemingly divine miracles in a small New England town and uses them to resurrect his career, but the ‘miracles’ may have a much darker source.

The adaptation is now filming in Massachusets. The film is being produced by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, through their company Ghost House Pictures.
