Sam Raimi shook the horror community back in July when he announced that he was writing an EVIL DEAD TV series that would see Bruce Campbell reprise his iconic role as Ash. Since then, however, we haven’t heard much.. that is, until today! Hero Complex reports that the new series, which arrives as a follow-up to Sam Raimi’s venerated horror franchise, re-teams director Raimi with longtime producing partner Rob Tapert and star Campbell.

Raimi will direct the pilot (of course!), which will apparently unfold in 10 half-hour installments. While I was hoping for something that ran a little longer, the fact that we're even talking about this right now is some exciting stuff. Ash and his boomstick are closer than ever to finally returning as the series is set to premiere on Starz in 2015. Ho-ly-shit.

Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead.  When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal.  Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.

Entitled “Ash vs. Evil Dead”, the series was written by Sam Raimi, Ivan Raimi and Tom Spezialy.

“‘Evil Dead’ has always been a blast. Bruce, Rob and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash’s lame, but heroic saga.  With his chain saw arm and his ‘boomstick,’ Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it,” Raimi said in a statement.

Sam Raimi will also serve as executive producer, along with Tapert and Bruce Campbell. Ivan Raimi will co-executive produce and Aaron Lam (“Spartacus”) will serve as producer.
