Atlantis gets a writer

ATLANTIS RISING – the “underwater civilization rises to kick our ass” epic – already had a couple of producers (Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci) and a director attached (Len Wiseman), but oops! – they forgot to hire someone to write the screenplay! Ah well, who really cares about that anyway… Just in case they need one though, Dreamworks has hired Joby Harold to scribble the sci-fi action flick, which is based on a comic book series by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg.

“Atlantis Rising” kicks off when seismic disturbances at sea force world militaries to investigate the deepest part of the ocean, where an underground civilization emerges to engage in war with planet Earth.

If Harold’s name is familiar, then maybe you saw his directorial effort AWAKE, starring Hayden Christensen (blech) and Jessica Alba (yay!). If that doesn’t do it for you, Harold also wrote ARMY OF THE DEAD, an epic zombie tale, for Zack Snyder to produce and possibly direct.

The cool news is that apparently Dreamworks is looking to make ATLANTIS RISING in the vein of James Cameron’s ALIENS and THE ABYSS. Hey, it can’t hurt to have high ambitions.

Naturally, since I mentioned her name, I must grace this page with a photo of Ms. Alba.
