This is an uber exciting day, as Variety has announced that SILENT HILL scribe Roger Avary will be bringing RETURN TO CASTLE WOLFENSTEIN to the big screen! That thump you heard was my fat ass hitting the floor- how flippin’ cool is this???
Produced by RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION producer Samuel Hadida (who also collaborated with Avary on HILL), WOLFENSTEIN is based on the first first-person shoot em’ up game from Id Software back in the early 90s, which told the timeless tale of one man versus the entire Nazi army (or felt like it, at least), armed with a chain gun and a bad attitude. It was a f*cking sweet ride, and now it’s coming to the big screen!
Officially, this WOLFENSTEIN goes like this: U.S. Army Ranger B.J. Blazkowicz leads a team of agents into Castle Wolfenstein in order to investigate the Nazis’ SS Paranormal Division. Don’t know how much I like this whole ‘team’ idea, but I suppose it’ll do. I mean, Avary, who wrote and directed the underrated RULES OF ATTRACTION is behind this beast, so it has the potential to rock more than AC/DC in the 80s.
Plus, check out what Avary had to say on the project: “I’ve been playing the character of B.J. Blazkowicz since the epic ‘Wolfenstein 3D’ first bruised my brain and have ever since wanted to bring his adventures to life on the bigscreen. It’s time to bust some dams, storm some bunkers and blow up some bridges.”
How can you really go wrong with that? As there are hordes of WOLFENSTEIN fans out there, this is a very tall order… and I have no doubt that Avary will delivery- but what do you think? Spit your thoughts below and ready for more on RETURN TO CASTLE WOLFENSTEIN as we hear it!
