This news kind’ve flew under the radar, which is surprising since usually every time a video game is making the transition to the big-screen it’s usually announced with blaring trumpets and a guy who walks the streets with a bell screaming “Hear-ye, hear-ye!!” (Or is that just in my neighborhood?)
Producer Sam Hadida and screenwriter Roger Avary (who last teamed on the SILENT HILL movie) are getting together for “Return to Castle Wolfenstein.”
Since I’m only vaguely familiar with the first game, WOLFENSTEIN 3D, I was surprised to find that the sequel had a supernatural/horror angle. According to Wikipedia, it revolves around U.S. Army Ranger B.J. Blazkowicz, who, along with another agent, is sent to investigate rumors surrounding one of Heinrich Himmler’s personal projects, the SS Paranormal Division. The agents are captured before completing their mission and are imprisoned in Castle Wolfenstein. Blazkowicz must escape the castle and continue investigating the activities of the SS Paranormal Division, which include research on resurrecting corpses, bio-technology, and secret weapons.
And dig on this: that crazy f*ck Himmler really DID have a castle that he and other SS stooges would use as a place for weird rituals and practices. They oughta just make a movie about that kooky shit, but this will do, as it sounds like a cool project (although I’ll admit I thought SILENT HILL’s screenplay was completely awful). Avary is also on board to direct the flick.
