Backpackers end up in Medieval Germany in Unhinged director’s Black Forest

Derrick Borte's road rage thriller UNHINGED was one of the few films to get a major release this summer, and now the director is gearing up for his next project, a time travel horror film called BLACK FOREST.

Borte wrote the screenplay for BLACK FOREST with Daniel Forte, crafting a story about

a group of university students backpacking through Germany’s famed Black Forest. Through inexplicable phenomena the students find themselves transported back in time to The Middle Ages. Separated and hunted by local villagers, the students find themselves targets in a Medieval-style witch hunt.

That sounds very cool to me. Many of us wish we could go back in time, but when we do we don't imagine the sort of scenario BLACK FOREST will be digging into.

Borte sees this film as

a wonderful chance to sink my teeth into the contemporary horror genre."

BLACK FOREST is being produced by Dutch Tilt Film's Sofia Sondervan-Bild and Storyland Pictures' Scott F. Lochmus, in association with Balkanic Media's James Gibb. Ellen Wander and Jordan Dykstra of Film Bridge International will serve as executive producers, and Film Bridge will also be handling world distribution sales.

Wander said,

BLACK FOREST is a clever, contemporary thriller like nothing we’ve seen before. Undoubtedly, we’re delighted to have the opportunity to work with a filmmaker like Borte."

Film Bridge is presenting the project to potential buyers at the virtual TIFF, where their line-up also includes THE BAY OF SILENCE and the remake of CASTLE FREAK.
