One of the elements that made Guillermo Del Toro’s dark fantasy fable PAN’S LABYRINTH such an impressive achievement was the thoroughly excellent work of its lead, young Ivana Baquero. She’s recently signed on to her first English-language role and in an interesting coinkidink, it’s another horror thriller, this time Gold Circle Films’ THE NEW DAUGHTER. Written by John Travis and based on a short story by writer John Connolly, the film centers on a single dad who moves his two children to a remote farm where a suspicious mound is seemingly inciting bizarre behavior in one of his children. Baquero will presumably play the disturbed child, hopefully giving her another opportunity to display her preternatural talent. The project is currently out to directors.
