The Barbie Digital release starts the party in September after the film becomes WB’s highest-grossing domestic release.

If you thought Greta Gerwig’s Barbie was done making waves at the box office, think again! The existential comedy is now the highest-grossing Warner Bros. movie in the studio’s 100-year history! With $537.4M in domestic receipts, the blonde bombshell’s meta dance party has driven its Pink Convertible past the previous record holder, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Night (534.9M). In addition to the milestone, the Barbie Digital release date has been set for September 5, 2023. You can pre-order your copy now through Google Play, iTunes, Microsoft Store, and Vudu!

Barbie crossed the half-billion mark in the United States and Canada after its 22nd release day, flying past Top Gun: Maverick (30 days) and The Super Mario Bros Movie (31 days). Globally, Barbie stands atop $1.2 billion in box office returns. The doll’s delightful adventure is the second-highest-grossing movie worldwide from Warner Bros., with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part Two still casting spells with $1.34 billion.

Amazingly, screenings for Barbie are still sold out in select theaters across the United States and Canada. Yesterday, several friends tried to see the movie in New Jersey and Pennsylvania but couldn’t find seats. Even I couldn’t find a showing before the film was out for two weeks, and I was checking every day. It’s incredible how much Barbie has resonated with audiences across a broad spectrum.

“After being expelled from Barbieland for being a less-than-perfect doll, Barbie sets off to the real world to find true happiness,” the official synopsis reads.

The Barbie cast includes many of Hollywood’s heavy hitters and fresh faces, including Margot Robbie (The Suicide Squad) and Ryan Gosling (La La Land) as Barbie and Ken, alongside America Ferrera (End of Watch), Kate McKinnon (The Spy Who Dumped Me), Michael Cera (Arrested Development), Ariana Greenblatt (Borderlands), Issa Rae (Insecure), Thea Perlman (Matilda), and Will Ferrell (Elf). The film also stars Ana Cruz Kayne (Little Women), Emma Mackey (Sex Education), Nari Nef (Transparent), Alexandra Shipp (the X-Men films), Kingsley Ben-Adir (Secret Invasion), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Ncuiti Gatwa (Doctor Who), Scott Evans (Grace and Frankie), Jamie Demetriou (Cruella), Connor Swindells (Emma), Sharon Rooney (Dumbo), Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton), Ritu Arya (The Umbrella Academy), Dua Lipa, and Helen Mirren (The Queen).

Greta Gerwig directs Barbie from a screenplay she wrote with Noah Baumbach, based on Mattel’s rich history with the Barbie toy brand. The film’s producers are Oscar nominee David Heyman (Marriage StoryGravity), Robbie, Tom Ackerley, and Robbie Brenner, with Michael Sharp, Josey McNamara, Ynon Kreiz, Courtenay Valenti, Toby Emmerich, and Cate Adams serving as executive producers.
