Barbie: Ryan Gosling glows in first look image as Ken

Barbie movie, Ryan Gosling, Ken, Margot Robbie

Ryan Gosling as Ken in Greta Gerwig‘s Barbie movie is riding shotgun in Barbie’s pink convertible and ready to grate your cheese across his chiseled abs. Did that sound dirty? It should because damn, Ryan! Somewhere there’s a bottle of bleach, smoking a cigarette and beginning work on its memoirs.

The new photo features Gosling in a cutoff denim vest, matching jeans, personalized underwear, and a modest spray tan. Gosling’s bleached blond mop shines against the sun while he sports a cheeky smile. He looks like the guy you’d see on a gag greeting card, waiting to wish you a happy and horny 40th birthday. I’m not going to lie. He’s a hunk, and I love it. This photo is the second official still from Gerwig’s Barbie movie, following an image showing Margot Robbie in Barbie’s pink convertible.

Gerwig will direct and co-write Barbie with her partner and collaborator, Noah Baumbach. The supporting cast includes the likes of America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, and more. Also joining the cast are Kingsley Ben-Adir, Rhea Perlman, Emerald Fennell, Sharon Rooney, Scott Evans, Ana Cruz Kayne, Connor Swindells, Ritu Arya, and Jamie Demetriou. No plot details have been released. However, rumors suggest the film could feature multiversal madness, with several actors playing the same character.

Given that the identity of the Barbie doll extends to a myriad of ethnicities and cultures, the film may find Robbie’s Barbie learning that there are many versions of her across reality. While this may sound far-fetched, you must remember that Barbie has been around for over 60 years and is not restricted to the blonde icon that put her on the map. The same goes for Ken, who has been represented throughout the character’s history in many ways.

What do you think of Gosling’s look as Ken? Would you be willing to go with him on a weekend getaway to Barbie’s Malibu House? Does Ken bleach more than his hair? Maybe we’ll find out when Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie comes to theaters on July 21, 2023.
