Barrowman wants CapAm

JoBloJoBlo

Now that Chris Hemsworth has been cast in THOR, the only real missing piece of Marvel’s AVENGERS puzzle is red, white and blue all over. CAPTAIN AMERICA is slated for a summer 2011 release, but almost nothing about the project is for certain at this point.

It’s probably for that reason that “Torchwood” star John Barrowman saw Comic Con as good a time as any to toss his hat into the ring. Addressing the crowd at the “Torchwood” panel Barrowman said, “You know what I want to play? Captain America.” But over the cheers of his fans he added, “So it won’t happen.” That’s the spirit!

I just finished watching Barrowman perform adequately in the “Torchwood: Children of Earth” miniseries on the BBC, and though I suppose he’s a decent enough actor and could look the part with a blonde dye job, I don’t see him in the role, and I don’t think “Torchwood” has enough petition-signing fans to get him the part. I mean, if “Firefly” nuts couldn’t get Nathan Fillion GREEN LANTERN…

However, I do agree with the idea that the Cap’n should NOT be a premium A-list face a-la-Pitt or DiCaprio as has been suggested previously. Hemsworth as Thor was a good call (though Skarsgard was clearly better) while conversely, I think Ryan Reynolds is the wrong pick for Green Lantern.
