Taylor Sheridan has an impressive body of work in films with movies like Sicario, Hell or High Water, and Wind River, and now, he’s continuing a reign on TV with a new series from Paramoun+ titled Bass Reeves. Variety has learned that the new Sheridan series has just signed on Dennis Quaid to join star David Oyelowo. Sheridan’s new show continues his tradition of exploring the goods and evils of rural American life.

The official description of Bass Reeves reads, “Reeves was known as the greatest frontier hero in American history and also believed to be the inspiration for ‘The Lone Ranger.’ He worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory, capturing over 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded.”

Quaid’s role is revealed to be that of a U.S. Deputy Marshall Sherrill Lynn. Quaid is the second cast member to be confirmed after Oyelowo. Quaid is no stranger to television. However, he has been very selective throughout his career to pick just any old television roles. Quaid has played roles in Merry Happy Whatever, The Art of More, and Vegas. Although he is known best for his film roles, having starred in feature films such as The Rookie, The Day After Tomorrow, Traffic, Frequency, The Parent Trap, The Right Stuff, Breaking Away, and the recent Midway, among many others classics.

The Bass Reeves show was first reported on in September 2021. Sheridan has had a few television productions aired and become hits on Paramount+, starting with Yellowstone. He then went on to spin it off with 1883, then recently released the Sylvester Stallone series, Tulsa King, is also releasing Mayor of Kingstown with Jeremy Renner, a western, titled 1923, with Harrison Ford, and a new show with Morgan Freeman, called Lioness.

Oyelowo signed a deal with Paramount, who was then led by Viacom/CBS, and MTV Entertainment Studios under his Yoruba Saxon banner. Sheridan will executive produce alongside Chad Feehan, David C. Glasser, Oyelowo, Jessica Oyelowo, David Permut, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari and David Hutkin.  The series is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch Productions, and Oyelowo’s Yoruba Saxon.
