Just two weeks before the premiere of the second season of Mayor of Kingstown, Jeremy Renner suffered a horrific accident that left him in “critical but stable” condition. The actor still has a long road of recovery ahead of him, but the marketing department behind the Paramount+ series has altered the key-art of the new season out of respect for Renner.

The key-art for Mayor of Kingstown season 2 originally featured Jeremy Renner with a face full of blood cuts and bruises (which you can see above) but they have since been changed. “It’s good of the network,Mayor of Kingstown co-creator Hugh Dillon told THR. “Everybody is sensitive to Jeremy.” It remains to be seen how Renner’s injuries will impact him moving forward, but Dillon added that he’s already cooking up ideas for a third season with co-creator Taylor Sheridan. The actor’s sister Kym Renner told People last week that they’re “so thrilled with his progess,” and that “if anyone knows Jeremy, he is a fighter and doesn’t mess around. he is crushing all the progress goals. We couldn’t feel more positive about the road ahead.

Jeremy Renner suffered “blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries” and was airlifted to a local medical center on New Years Day after he was run over by an “extremely large piece of snow-removal equipment.” Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam explained that the accident occurred when a family member’s vehicle got stuck in the snow. Renner got his Snow-cat to tow the stuck vehicle, but at some point, he exited the Snow-cat, after which it started to roll. Police say he tried to get back in, only to be run over by the Snow-cat. Jeremy Renner has kept fans updated from the hospital, but it seems that he’s now at home with his family as he tweeted that he was able to watch the premiere of Mayor of Kingstown season 2.

Mayor of Kingstown follows the McLusky family, power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry. Tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption and inequality, the series provides a stark look at their attempt to bring order and justice to a town that has neither. The season premiere is now streaming on Paramount+.
