Before you get sick of hearing about Batgirl news, let’s get in a word from the OG modern-day Bats himself, Michael Keaton. For those who may be out of the loop — as a big business merger transpired with Discovery and Warner Bros, the new studio CEO, David Zaslav, made a controversial decision to shelve the near-completed Batgirl movie without any plan to release for a tax write off. Nearly every featured cast member involved has shared a reaction in one way or another.

The film was to mark a return for Keaton’s version of the Batman after his reintroduction in the upcoming DC film and PR nightmare, The Flash. Keaton won big at the 2022 Emmys for his performance in the limited TV series, Dopesick. When doing press, this was an opportunity for him to finally comment on the matter, as reported by Variety

When asked about it, Keaton responds, “I think it was a business decision. I’m going to assume it was a good one. I really don’t know.” And when he was asked when he thinks he’ll dawn the cape and cowl again, Keaton joked, “A little later tonight, probably, if you’re lucky enough. We’ll see. It was great. It was fun. I really have no idea.”

Earlier this week, another cast member of the jettisoned film, Brendan Fraser, was asked about it as he makes the circuit for The Whale. Fraser says, “It’s disappointing. The fans really wanted to see this film made. Leslie Grace is a dynamo. The movie was shot and conceived for a smaller screen. In this age that we’ve come out of now between streaming service versus theatrical release, it wound up being the canary in the coal mine.”

If you need to scratch that itch, the visual effects artists at Corridor Digital made a fake leaked trailer for Batgirl, which you can watch and make it here.
