We’re sad to inform you of the passing of Michael Gough. The British actor died at the age of 94 yesterday after a long battle with illness. He was surrounded by family at his home. He appeared in more than 150 films and television shows throughout his 65-year career.
Gough is most easily recognized as Alfred Pennyworth from Tim Burton’s BATMAN, a role he also reprised in its three sequels. He worked with Burton again in SLEEPY HOLLOW and provided voices for THE CORPSE BRIDE and last year’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND, his final performance.
Having worked with Hammer for years, Gough is not without his horror credits. He has appeared in such genre films as THE SERPENT AND THE RAINBOW, HORROR OF DRACULA, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, HORRORS OF THE BLACK MUSEUM, KONGA, VENOM and an uncredited role in THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE, among others.
Gough is survived by his fourth wife, daughter and two sons. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and fans. May he rest in peace.
