Bay to make 2012?

I always thought Michael Bay’s films did a good job of bringing the apocalypse to movie theatres, but now he’s actually going to make a film about the apocalypse. Apparently he has agreed to produce and perhaps direct an adaptation of sci-fi author Whitley Strieber’s upcoming novel 2012: War for Souls.

From what I gather about the background information about the plot, it sounds pretty cool. According to the Mayan calendar, the existing world order would be reversed in 2012. Also, the old school Ms. Cleo – Nostradamus – predicted that a large comet would greet earth with a big smile and wipe all of us out. And of course religion makes it’s way into the 2012 fear mongering, as the Roman Catholic Saint Malachy predicted that in 2012, the last Pope would arrive which of course spells the Judgment Day.

I got a great idea, Bay should cast Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck as men sent to land on the comet to blow it up! Oh crap, that movie already sucked.
