Beasties love Gondry

JoBloJoBlo

The mere mention of Michel Gondry’s name conjures images of the mind-bending, bargain-basement visuals that have become synonymous with the director’s work. Sometimes the focus on his visuals is so strong, that we tend to forget that he’s quite the competent storyteller as well. His latest film, a documentary called THE THORN IN THE HEART recently premiered at Cannes to much acclaim. It was announced today that production house Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired the North American distribution rights for Gondry’s documentary, which is a personal look at the life of Gondry family matriarch, his aunt Suzette Gondry, and her relationship with her son, Jean-Yves. Oscilloscope will open the film in theaters, with a DVD and digital release to follow.

Long time collaborators and good friends of Gondry’s–The Beastie Boys–run Oscilloscope, so it’s no surprise that they’ve decided to invest in their pal’s deeply personal film. Beastie Boy Adam Yauch had this to say about the film:

Michel is one of the most innovative and creative people in the world. So it’s great to see him making a sincere doc on a subject that is so close to his heart. (no pun intended).

Okay Michel, I understand. Just get all the sensitive shit out of your system and then blow as away with GREEN HORNET. Thank you, and good night.
