I can remember when I was a 4 year-old lad and my dad took my to go see BEETLEJUICE. Some scenes made me laugh (even at that age seeing Michael Keaton at his best was great), and some scenes scared me. But from then on, I would have an eternal crush on Winona Ryder. So to this day the film holds a special place in my heart, especially since it was my favorite director, Tim Burton, who directed the film.
So with that in mind, it makes me extremely sad to hear that a sequel is finally in the works, but Michael Keaton isn’t going to be reviving his role that he nailed twenty years ago. How can you have BEETLEJUICE without Keaton himself? And I’m assuming by this news that Tim Burton isn’t going to direct either. To throw salt in the wound, the film is going to be a straight to DVD project. Man, it just seems wrong to be doing BEETLEJUICE like this, especially after years of hearing how Michael Keaton wanted to do a sequel.
Apparently we can expect more straight to DVD projects like this as well, since the President of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group, Kevn Tsujihara, had this to say: “With Warner Premiere, we’re creating an additional stream of new, high-quality, ‘fan-ready’ DVDs that will be supported by top-notch marketing to help them standout in the increasingly crowded marketplace.”
I try not to get mad at movie news since their can be a lot of opportunities to get mad, but this story really pisses me off.
