Better Things to conclude with season 5 on FX

Pamela Adlon, FX, season five, better things

Pamela Adlon’s critically acclaimed FX series, Better Things, will wrap up its run with its upcoming fifth season. Season five, which was ordered last year, is currently filming for a premiere in 2022.

Adlon is the brains behind Better Things as an executive producer, writer, director, showrunner, and star. The series tells the story of Sam Fox (Adlon), a single mother and working actor with no filter, raising her daughters Max (Mikey Madison), Frankie (Hannah Alligood), and Duke (Olivia Edward) in Los Angeles. Sam also looks after her mother, Phil (Celia Imrie), an English ex-pat with questionable faculties who lives across the street. Adlon had this to say about the series ending its run:

“I will forever be grateful to FX for allowing me to tell stories the way I see the world and want the world to be seen. Making this show has been film school for me. I bow down to my crew and my cast. And I can’t wait for people to discover and re-discover Better Things. This is gonna be a wrap on Sam Fox (for now). See you at the after party.”

Adlon will continue to be in business with FX after Better Things comes to an end. When season five of the series was ordered last year, Adlon signed a new overall deal with the studio to develop new scripted and unscripted programming for FX as well as potentially other divisions of Walt Disney Television. It should come as no surprise that FX wants this relationship to continue because Better Things has been showered with critical praise and accolades. The series won a Peabody Award in 2017 and landed on a number of lists as one of the best television shows of the decade. Adlon received a 2017 and 2018 Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, a 2018 Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Television Series Musical or Comedy, and the show also earned a WGA nomination and five TCA Award nominations.
