Betty Gabriel is Leigh Whannell’s Stem female lead

It looks like Betty Gabriel may be a new genre regular. She braved the horrors of Purge night in THE PURGE: ELECTION YEAR, has a role in the Sundance premiere GET OUT, and will be seen fighting aliens with PURGE co-star Frank Grillo in BEYOND SKYLINE. Now you can add another genre credit to the list, as Gabriel has been cast as the female lead in STEM, a Blumhouse production that is being written and directed by Leigh Whannell (SAW, INSIDIOUS).

A sci-fi thriller, STEM is set in

a near-future when technology controls nearly all aspects of life and centers on a technophobe who avenges his wife's murder and his own paralysis-causing injury with the help of an experimental computer-chip implant called Stem.

Logan Marshall-Green will be playing the vengeance-seeking technophobe. Details on Gabriel's character were not offered, but she was a strong presence in THE PURGE: ELECTION YEAR so I see her casting in this film as very good news.

STEM will be filmed in Whannell's hometown of Melbourne, Australia.
