Stock up on ammo for the Annihilator 2000 and grab some bananas for your tailpipe because Joseph Gordon-Levitt (LooperInceptionPoker Face) and Taylour Paige (ZolaMa Rainey’s Black BottomWhite Boy Rick) are joining Eddie Murphy for the long-awaited Beverly Hills Cop sequel. Additionally, Netflix unveiled the film’s new title, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley.

After an extensive search for a director, Mark Molloy will direct the Beverly Hills Cop sequel. Molloy’s previous work includes shooting a series of shorts and promos for Apple, Nissan, and the website domain registrar Go Daddy. Murphy will produce alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman for Jerry Bruckheimer Films. Will Beall, who wrote the screenplay for DC‘s Aquaman, will pen the script.

The Beverly Hills Cop sequel will focus on Muphy’s Axel Foley, a Detroit cop with a reputation for flaunting rules if it means bringing criminals to justice. Throughout the franchise, Axel solved a mysterious murder in Beverly Hills, uncovered the nature of the “alphabet crimes” spree, and unleashed chaos in the Wonderworld amusement park. Each film in the Beverly Hills Cop series varies in quality, with the third being the most contentious of the group. Fans of the series will be quick to call Molloy out for any shenanigans, though we’ve heard that Murphy refused to participate in the project until he felt the script was up to snuff. Assuming the movie has Murphy’s seal of approval, it could finally be time for Foley to rise like a mighty phoenix from the ashes of action nostalgia.

What do you think about a Beverly Hills Cop sequel finally being in the works? Do you miss the antics of Axel Foley? Do you believe Bronson Pinchot’s Serge will cameo in the new film? What kind of weapons will he have on offer this time around? Let us know in the comments below.
