Beware the Slenderman doc to hit HBO, gets new poster

Last Updated on July 21, 2021

There has been a wealth of creepypasta-related content cropping up in the past year or so, because the Hollywood machine is nothing if not diligent about trends from a few too many years ago. However, the newest example of the genre is an intriguing one.

HBO will soon be airing BEWARE THE SLENDERMAN, a documentary from Irene Taylor Brodsky (HEAR AND NOW). She has gained exlusive access to the families of the 12-year-old girls who stabbed a classmate twenty times, claiming to be inspired by the fictional creepypasta character the Slenderman. There's no solid date on the doc yet, but it does have a creepy new poster that you can check out below!

The traumatizing story of the so-called Slenderman has been circulating around the internet for more than five years, terrorizing children, scaring even hardened Redditors and creating an overwhelming sense of unease in anyone who runs across the tales of the supernatural figure. Born out of a 2009 meme, the chilling individual has been the source of folk tales, video games, and now, documentaries.

Brodsky uses the (fictional) disturbing figure to explore not only the effect that Internet lore has on real-life actions, but also how the digital age is saturating the imagination and actions of children.

BEWARE THE SLENDERMAN will be premiering at SXSW on March 11th before it heads to HBO.
