After an ardous and seemingly neverending attempt to get it made, the producers of the remake of LOGAN’S RUN have made a very interesting decision and one that may finally get the movie made. According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has selected Ken Levine, the creator of the video game BioShock, as the new screenwriter on LOGAN’S RUN.

Levine is a huge fan of LOGAN’S RUN and is using his pre-BioShock skills as a playwright and screenwriter to help the movie get made. He will continue to work at Irrational Games as creative director. The BioShock franchise is extremely popular not just for the gameplay but the engaging story which should make fans of LOGAN’S RUN happy about this news.

For those of you unfamiliar with LOGAN’S RUN:

The film was based on the 1967 book by William F. Nolan and George Clayton John, about a dystopian society set in the year 2116 in which all people must be willingly executed at age 21 as a means of population control. Those who try to escape their fate are called ‘runners.’ In the 1976 Michael Anderson-directed film that starred Michael York as Logan 5, the maximum age is 30 and the setting is post-apocalyptic earth in which all humans live inside a huge domed city.

The remake of LOGAN’S RUN has previously been linked to Bryan Singer as well as the duo of Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling. Aside from the brief 1977 television series there has been no sequel to the popular 1976 Academy Award winning film. While a writer being selected does not mean the movie will get made, it does definitely increase the likelihood that the studio means business.

Whether the film will be a remake of the original or a new adaptation of the source novel is unknown. Either way, here is to hoping this movie gets made soon.
