I’ll be honest with you, I’m not quite sure what BLACK FRIDAY really is – it seems its own flick, and yet all signs point to it being a phantom FRIDAY THE 13th film. Fangoria posted an article today regarding this flick and the slew of FRIDAY people involved with it. Dig this, it stars Tom Savini (did the effects for the 1st and 4th entries), Ari Lehman (who played young Jason in the first chapter), Kane Hodder (you know who he is), Julie Michaels (FINAL FRIDAY), and was produced by Noel Cunningham, son of Sean Cunningham, the first film’s director. In addition, the score is being written by the creator of the infamous “cha cha cha, ha ha ha” theme, Harry Manfredini.
So what exactly is the deal with BLACK FRIDAY? Director Ethan Terra wants to keep wraps on the nature of the flick – so much so that he apparently leaked fake storylines to the net in order to keep the actual plot top secret. He apologizes to Fangoria for the ruse, saying: “We also would like to publicly apologize for posting several different fake storylines for the film. We’re doing everything we can to keep the actual plot top secret—it’s so secret that even Sean S. Cunningham himself doesn’t know the ending, and he’s producing!”
I’m sure the apology is heartfelt, and in no way a buzz-creating tactic… Well hell, either way, he’s got me intrigued! An older Fango article mentions that BLACK FRIDAY’s title originated as a FREDDY VS. JASON screenplay that was rejected, but Terra was able to forge a relationship with the Cunningham boys
IMDB has the following as a synopsis: Twenty years ago Tyler Hillburg brutally massacred his mother and lover in cold blood. Now, he has returned to slash his way through a whole new generation. Hmm, so its FRIDAY meets PSYCHO!
