Now Playing Magazine had a chance to sit down with FINAL DESTINATION 3 star Mary Elizabeth Winstead today, in which she dished some interesting info., not on FD3, but on the remake of Bob Clark’s classic slasher fest BLACK CHRISTMAS.
The remake reteams Winstead with writer/producer duo James Wong and Glen Morgan (WILLARD), who also worked with her on FD3. So what are we to expect from this new CHRISTMAS? Winstead puts it like this:
“It’s interesting, because it’s sort of both a prequel and a sequel [to the original]. The first chunk of the film follows the childhood and back story of Billy, who’s the crazed killer. And then it picks up with the girls in the sorority house in present day, and Billy comes back for a visit. Then there are a lot of twists and disturbing turns, and things that you wouldn’t expect.”
Ok, I get the prequel angle she’s pushing for, learning more about the Billy the killer and all, but how is it a sequel? Sounds more like a prequel/remake than anything else. But really, any movie boasting a cast of soriety girls stalked and slaughtered sounds like a good movie to me! Sure, the fact that it’s a remake doesn’t help their case, but as it’s taking a somewhat different angle on finding out the killer’s background, it’s not entirely a remake. Right? Right?
Filming is set to begin in Vancouver Monday, with a prospective holiday release (they better!). For more on the interview, head over HERE, and be sure to check FINAL DESTINATION 3 in theaters next weekend.
