Florence Pugh, The Maid, Black Widow

With starring roles in Fighting with My Family, Midsommar, and Little Woman, 2019 was definitely a big year for Florence Pugh, but her future is looking bright indeed. Along with starring alongside Scarlett Johansson in the upcoming Black Widow, Pugh has several interesting projects in the works, the latest of which is an adaptation of Nita Prose's yet-to-be-released novel The Maid.

Deadline has reported that Universal Pictures have acquired the rights to The Maid, which isn't slated to debut until 2022, and that Florence Pugh will be starring in the project. Said to be something of a blend between Gail Honeyman's Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine and an Agatha Christie-style murder mystery, The Maid takes place at the Regency Grand Hotel and follows Molly, a maid who leaves every room perfect and pristine, all while getting to know the dirty secrets of each guest. "A Clue-like, locked-room whodunnit," reads Deadline's description. "The Maid explores Molly’s descent into the murderous underbelly of her gilded workplace, while telling a timely story about the strengths of our differences." In addition to starring in the film, Florence Pugh will also produce the project as well.

Florence Pugh will next be appearing in Black Widow as Yelena Belova, a sister-figure to Scarlett Johansson's character who was also trained in the Red Room. After facing several COVID-related delays, Black Widow is currently slated to hit theaters on May 7, 2021. Pugh is also expected to reprise the role for Marvel's Hawkeye series for Disney+. Pugh is currently in the midst of production on Don't Worry Darling alongside Harry Styles and Chris Pine, a psychological thriller directed by Olivia Wilde (Booksmart) that follows an unhappy 1950s housewife whose reality begins to crack, revealing a disturbing truth underneath.
