With Ridley Scott putting the post-production touches on his alien-inspired PROMETHEUS, many may forget about his plans to retell BLADE RUNNER in some form or fashion. Back in September word seeped out that CONTAGION scribe Scott Z. Burns had been courted to adapt the BLADE RUNNER screenplay, but now, thanks to Alcon producer Andrew Kosove, we have a new update.
When interviewed by The Playlist, Kosove addressed a number of topics. One of them was the status of BLADE RUNNER, which he believes is still atop Ridley’s to-do list. Check it…
“He’s got a lot of stuff that he’s working on. I believe it’s an extremely high priority for Ridley, that’s what he’s said to me. This project is moving forward aggressively in development…Sometime in the first two months of the new year we’ll announce who the screenwriter will be and whether or not it’s a prequel or sequel. And then we’ll be off to the races.”
Wow, so much for a remake then, ay. It seems, like PROMETHEUS to ALIEN, BLADE RUNNER will either be a prologue or extension of the 1982 original. With Harry Ford likely out, my guess is they gravitate toward a prequel, again, like PROMETHEUS. Should be an interesting development.
What says you? Utterly nuts for Ridley to go back to past glory? Would you prefer a prequel or sequel to the events seen in the 1982 movie?
