It’s been a little while since I last wrote about the new MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D here. I guess within that span director Patrick Lussier has been busy shooting the flick. Well, hopefully he’ll be done sooner rather than later because Lionsgate has just bumped up its release date.
Originally scheduled to open on January 23rd 2009, VALENTINE will now be checking in one week earlier on January 16th 2009. This doesn’t bother me too much because it’s not too great a shift like AMUSEMENT always seems to get stuck with. In fact, I’m kind of glad that BLOODY is now coming a little bit sooner, even though it’s now going to be nearly a month away from Valentine’s Day.
I believe the main reason for the shift, however, is because the second UNDERWORLD sequel is set to open on January 23rd and there’s really no point in having two genre efforts go head to head. Spacing ’em out a week sounds like good business to me. Personally, I’d rather see MY BLOODY VALENTINE in 3-D, but my opinion is irrelevant. So mark your 2009 calendars when you get them: BLOODY V. on 1/16/09.
