Blue Steel: Jamie Lee Curtis thriller is coming to Blu-ray in November

The next Blu-ray release in the Vestron Video Collector’s Series is Kathryn Bigelow’s 1990 thriller Blue Steel, starring Jamie Lee Curtis

Lionsgate has announced that the next film to reach Blu-ray as part of their Vestron Video Collector’s Series is the 1990 thriller Blue Steel! The release date is November 14th and copies are already available for pre-order at THIS LINK.

Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, who crafted the screenplay with her Near Dark co-writer Eric Red, Blue Steel centers on newly minted NYPD officer Megan Turner, who responds to a grocery store robbery – and kills the perpetrator – her first day on the job. But Megan’s uncorroborated story of the shooting gets her suspended from active duty when the stickup gun mysteriously vanishes. Enter a charming-but-disturbed commodities trader, whose obsession with Megan threatens to destroy everything she holds dear, pushing her into a desperate fight to salvage her reputation… and save her own life.

The film stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Ron Silver, Clancy Brown, Elizabeth Peña, Louise Fletcher, Philip Bosco, Richard Jenkins, Kevin Dunn, Tom Sizemore, Mary Mara, Skipp Lynch, Mike Hodge, Mike Starr, Matt Craven, and Lauren Tom.

Bigelow would go on to direct Point Break, Strange Days, Best Picture winner The Hurt Locker, and Zero Dark Thirty, among other films. She won the Best Director Oscar for her work on The Hurt Locker. In addition to Near Dark, Red is best known for writing The Hitcher.

Blue Steel comes to Blu-ray with the following special features: – Audio Commentary with Film Historian Alexandra Heller-Nicholas – “A Hired Gun” with Editor Lee Percy – “The Phallic Woman: Deconstructing Blue Steel” with Film Historian Professor Jennifer Moorman – “Staring Down the Barrel” with Production Designer Toby Corbett – A Profound Emotional Response: A Video Essay by Film Historian Chris O’Neill – Theatrical Trailer – TV Spots – Vintage Promo – Still Gallery

Blue Steel is a really cool movie, so I’m glad to hear that it’s getting the Vestron Video Collector’s Series Blu-ray treatment. This is definitely a must-have for the physical media collection, as far as I’m concerned.
