Bousman blows up

Congrats to Darren Bousman, director of this weekend’s smash sequel SAW II. Not only did the $4 million dollar pic rake in more than $30 million over the weekend, but now the man has signed a two-picture deal with Dimension Films. Plans are to find him another genre piece (YAY!), and have SAW franchise shepards Twisted Pictures handle production duties.

Here’s a little of what Bousman had to say about his sudden success:

“This is the most surreal thing, to have a hit movie and be courted by the Weinsteins. I wrote ‘The Desperate’ because I was feeling that way, and thought that the darkest, most violent movie I could write might get me noticed. It sparked the seed that became ‘Saw II.’ “

Just goes to show that a little healthy rage mixed with talent and some good timing can help you go far. Here’s wishing Bousman the best on his future projects. He’s managed to slog through the Hollywood mire to get the top. Now let’s see what other twisted tales he’s gonna bring us!
