Brad Pitt is a man with a plan in War Machine first look trailer

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Movies in war settings are often bloody, brutal, emotional, uncompromising and honest. But then there are the political aspects of it, which can make for extremely absurd depictions of the people who run the show. Brad Pitt hopes to take that kind of humor to the blackest of levels with his new movie, WAR MACHINE, which just dropped a new trailer and some photos to go along with it. Pitt is appropriately magnanimous and firm-jawed as General Glenn McMahon, and I'm already detecting the faint scent of Golden Globes from here.

Check it out!

Here’s a full synopsis:

An absurdist war story for our times, writer-director David Michôd (Animal Kingdom) recreates a U.S. General’s roller-coaster rise and fall as part reality, part savage parody – raising the specter of just where the line between them lies today.  His is an exploration of a born leader’s ultra-confident march right into the dark heart of folly.  At the story’s core is Brad Pitt’s sly take on a successful, charismatic four-star general who leapt in like a rock star to command NATO forces in Afghanistan, only to be taken down by a journalist’s no-holds-barred exposé.

And some lovely photos:

I’m never one to shy away from a satirical true story, and when you mix in Brad Pitt, who has given us some absurdly hilarious performances in the past (BURN AFTER READING), we got ourselves a ball game. From the look of it this will be a pretty entertaining look at the life of McMahon, giving Pitt a platform to shine. It’s hard to tell how funny it will be with just this preview but, again, Brad Pitt. What more do you need to know? Stop asking questions!

WAR MACHINE goes on Netflix on May 26 with Pitt, Tilda Swinton, Ben Kingsley, Anthony Michael Hall, Topher Grace, Will Poulter, Lakeith Stanfield, Meg Tilly and Scoot McNairy.
