Brad Pitt, Joseph Kosinski Formula One racing movie prompts bidding war

Brad Pitt, Joseph Kosinski, Formula One

Vroom Vroom. THR has reported that a bidding war has erupted for a Formula One racing movie that is set to be directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) and star Brad Pitt (Bullet Train). You have my attention.

The untitled Formula One movie has already attracted attention from Paramount, MGM, Sony, Universal and Disney, but streaming services such as Apple, Amazon, and Netflix are also bidding on the project. This is going to get heated. In addition to Brad Pitt and Joseph Kosinski, the film also has producer Jerry Bruckheimer and writer Ehren Kruger onboard. THR also states that racing legend Lewis Hamilton is also involved in some capacity.

It may depend on how long your memory is, but this isn’t the first time that Joseph Kosinski and Brad Pitt have flirted with making a racing movie. Pitt was once attached to star in Go Like Hell alongside Tom Cruise with Kosinski set to direct. The film would have told the story of the rivalry between Ford and Ferrari, but the project eventually fell apart and transformed into James Mangold’s Ford v. Ferrari starring Christian Bale and Matt Damon.

Joseph Kosinski’s next film will be Escape from Spiderhead, a sci-fi action film starring Chris Hemsworth, Miles Teller, and Jurnee Smollett. The film takes place in the near future as two convicts confront their pasts in a facility run by a visionary who gives them emotion-altering drugs. Escape from Spiderhead is set to debut on Netflix in 2022. Kosinski also as Top Gun: Maverick, the much anticipated Top Gun sequel that has been delayed again and again due to COVID, but the film is finally set to hit theaters on May 27, 2022. As for Brad Pitt, he will be starring in David Leitch’s Bullet Train, which will debut in theaters on April 8, 2022.
