20th Century Fox and The Walt Disney Studios will be releasing director James Gray's sci-fi epic AD ASTRA into theatres on September 20th – which is a release date I'm not very happy about, since it will put this movie directly against one I care about more, RAMBO: LAST BLOOD. But regardless of the release date, AD ASTRA does look pretty good.

The movie will be showing on IMAX screens, and today an IMAX exclusive trailer has been released. The trailer is embedded below and features some fantastic imagery, thanks to cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema. The look of the film is "based on Kodak stock images from the Apollo 11 through 17 lunar missions."

Written by Gray and Ethan Gross, AD ASTRA tells a story that has been compared to the 1899 Joseph Conrad novella Heart of Darkness, which was also the inspiration for APOCALYPSE NOW. Brad Pitt stars as

astronaut Roy McBride, who travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. His journey will uncover secrets that challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos.

Pitt is joined in the cast by Tommy Lee Jones, Liv Tyler, Ruth Negga, John Ortiz, Donald Sutherland, and Jamie Kennedy.

Pitt also produced the film with Gray, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Anthony Katagas, Rodrigo Teixeira, and Arnon Milchan.
