I’ve got to see these ELITE SQUAD movies. Earlier this month we learned that the director of the successful Brazilian action dramas, Jose Padilha, was negotiating with MGM to direct their ROBOCOP reboot. Now it would seem as though one of the stars of the flicks, Wagner Moura, is getting his shot at Hollywood fame as well.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Moura has been cast as a “powerful” villain in Neill Blomkamp’s DISTRICT 9 follow-up, ELYSIUM. The character is described as having a crazy sense of humor, but not much else is known beyond that.

If everything goes according to plan, Moura will star alongside Matt Damon, Jodie Foster (who isn’t 100% confirmed yet) and Sharlto Copley in ELYSIUM, which is tentatively due to come out in a late 2012. While we know the film will be set 100 years into the future, and has a price tag of about $120 million, there’s not much else to go on. I’m just happy it’s actually moving forward and the news is starting to flow in.
