Bride of Frankenstein postponed due to script issues

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

No one said making cinematic universes was going to be easy. Hell, we've already seen casualties (Amazing Spider-verse, anyone?), and even Warner Bros./DC are abandoning the concept to a certain extent by producing movies that aren't connected to the main one (like that stupid Joker origin movie). And Universal is definitely feeling the growing pains bad while trying to start up their monster-based DARK UNIVERSE – especially after stumbling out of the gate with the aggressively mediocre THE MUMMY, that failed to wow audiences, critics, or the box-office.

Well it looks like the next film in the would-be cinematic universe – BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN – is also hitting some rough patches. Apparently pre-production started in London, but the crew has recently been told to go home while the film goes "back to the lab" to work on the script. Javier Bardem and Angelina Jolie – set to play Frankenstein's monster and his bride, respectively – are still in talks for the roles, and in fact their involvement is dependent on these script changes.

Here's an official statement Universal sent to Deadline:

After thoughtful consideration, Universal Pictures and director Bill Condon have decided to postpone Bride of Frankenstein. None of us want to move too quickly to meet a release date when we know this special movie needs more time to come together. Bill is a director whose enormous talent has been proven time and again, and we all look forward to continuing to work on this film together.

So what do you guys think? You down for BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, or do you think they should even bother? Either way, sound off below!

Meanwhile, BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN will wake up in theaters who knows?
