Drew Goddard, co-writer and director of THE CABIN IN THE WOODS (as well as contributor to "Lost", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Alias") has apparently decided on his next project: THE MARTIAN, based on the E-book of the same name written by Andy Weir. Goddard is in negotiations currently to helm the flick, which is sounding like "CASTAWAY on Mars."

THE MARTIAN follows an astronaut who becomes stranded on Mars and must figure out how to survive long enough to return to Earth.

Simon Kinberg is producing THE MARTIAN through his Genre Films banner, while 20th Century Fox will eventually distribute.
