Cameron’s next a sci-fi?

Would anyone be stunned to learn that Jimmy Cameron’s next cinematic effort will be some kind of science-fiction project? Thought not! But that’s the exact genre Production Weekly has reported as next up for Cameron, whose mega-scale 3-D epic AVATAR goes global on December 18th.

According to the publication, Cameron might look to lens a “Shane Salerno sci-fi action script for Fox, said to be an event film set in the future.” Could it be the long rumored DOOMSDAY PROTOCOL, a script Salerno (ALIENS VS PREDATOR) sold last year? Could be a version of SEVEN SAMURAI set in the cosmos? Or will it BATTLE ANGEL, a flick Cameron currently has in pre-production?

While no plot details have been unearthed, nor if Cameron wishes to direct the film himself, if the man who once pronounced himself “king of the world” indeed takes on such a tent-pole outing, you best believe he’s bringing his 3-D school of filmmaking to the table.

Ah hell James, just get Arnie to rock robotic in T-5. Please!

More on this as it develops.
