Captain America 3 set to hit theaters May 6, 2016 against Batman vs Superman

Well, so much for 2015 being the biggest year for movies. With the announcement that BATMAN VS SUPERMAN was moving to the following summer so as to not go against the behemoth that will be THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, Warner Bros knowingly put their big team-up directly against an untitled Marvel film slated for May 6, 2016. Earlier, rumors had the DC blockbuster wavering and releasing the week prior to the May date. Now there are rumblings that it may be because of what that Marvel movie will be.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel’s untitled film will actually be CAPTAIN AMERICA 3. While this is unconfirmed, we already know that directors Joe and Anthony Russo are at work developing the story for the third film in the franchise and that both Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan are under contract for the film. With early buzz through the roof for CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, it makes sense to try and strike while the iron is hot.

If both Disney and Warner Bros decide they are sticking with May 6th, that could become the most contentious box office opening weekend of all time. While there have been major studio films opening on the same weekend in the past, to have these two premiere against each other could be a potential disaster for either film or box office gold for both. The question then becomes: do you go see CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 or BATMAN VS SUPERMAN? Or, do you make it the best double feature of all time?

CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 and BATMAN VS SUPERMAN may both open on May 6, 2016.
