Carpenter goes Gothic

It has been a good long while since we’ve seen anything from John Carpenter. Well, anything of substance, because though he’s contributed to two straight seasons of MASTERS OF HORROR, unfortunately I did not enjoy either of his entries. And his last theatrical movie was GHOSTS OF MARS, which has its cheese-factor and gets in a good kill every now and then, but c’mon – it’s GHOSTS OF MARS

I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say we need Carpenter back and kicking ass again, and maybe – just maybe – he’s got a project lined up that will return him to his former awesomeness.

It’s called LA GOTHIC. A scooper sent Aint it Cool News a small piece of info about it, saying the production company he works for is gearing up to make the thing. Here’s what he says:

On Friday the CE in our office started talking to one of the producers about a new John Carpenter Movie. The “Thing” and the first “Escape From New York” are two of my favorite movies of all time so my ears perked up and I overheard the CE describing Carpenter’s new movie. He said it’s called LA Gothic and the script has various chapters but they all revolve around a Priest and his Teen-age daughter and that there are a ton of creatures in it. It’s supposed to have vampires, zombies and a demon-possessed rock-star. He said it all takes place in LA over a couple of days and that it’s vintage Carpenter tons of gore and action.

I am okay with ALL of those things! Now we must see if a) we can get a solid confirmationg that this is actually happening; and b) if Carpenter can wrangle together a decent budget and a few cool names (Kurt Russell anyone?!) to participate.

Ghosts of Mars’ Natasha Henstridge.
